DESCRIPTION:Pianist\, composer and bandleader\, Gabriel Latchin is a strong favourite of the BJazz audience\, having made a name for himself as one of the UK’s finest musicians\, praised by critics and world renowned musicians alike. \nKnown for his effortlessly swinging feel\, deep repertoire and compelling performances\, Jazzwise recently described his playing as “impeccable… the clarity of his lines evoking something of Hank Jones or Tommy Flanagan”. The original Jazz Samba! \nMark Crooks is a lyrical and passionate saxophonist in the Stan Getz mould. He is a long-standing member of the John Wilson Orchestra with which he has played regularly at BBC Proms. \nGuitarist Nigel Price is one of the unsung heroes of the British Jazz Scene with over 500 appearances at Ronnie Scott’s\, 3 years with the James Taylor Quartet and winner of the British Jazz Awards and Parliamentary Jazz Awards. \nPercussionist Demi Garcia Sabat brings a wealth of experience in Flamenco\, jazz\, Arabic\, Latin\, Iberian Folk and pop music. \nMarianne Windham\, the founder of Guildford Jazz and a well-respected and in demand double bass player. \nThe quintet line-up also features John Cervantes on piano\, whose strong roots in the swinging jazz tradition are overlaid with classical and world music influences in\, as he puts it\, his “quest to express those undefinable flashes of life\, creation\, emotion & passion that make music so powerful” \nTickets are available online upto 16:00 on the night\, then on the door from Doors Open 18:45. \nSupport Act 7:00 pm:\nNatty Purbrick (p) and Clémentine Arnold (v): \nNatty Purbrick is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Brighton/London. His work covers a wide variety of genres\, ensemble size and type.  Here he plays with a vocalist and friend Clementine Arnold\, both having appeared at BJazz in previous Seasons. \nNatty Purbrick: From 2023-2025 he studied at the Purcell School for Young Musicians with a bursary studying composition under Gareth Moorcraft. He has worked as an intern Peter Michael Davison: assisting with composition for video-Game RuneScape DragonWilds\, and worked in recording sessions alongside film composer Danny Elfman. \nHis works well-reviewed works are self-released\, including two studio-produced large jazz songs – BIRD SONG and When My Thoughts Forget Me (feat. Clem Arnold). Since graduating Natty has received commissions for Purcell School projects and concerts\, as well as independent film composition work for production studios. He has played piano in jazz ensembles in venues across London\, such as a sold out show at Pizza Express Soho Jazz\, and at BJazz\, and regularly composes for and performs with large jazz ensembles across London\, run by brother Luke Purbrick. In September 2026 he started his undergraduate studies at The Guildhall School with a scholarship award. \nClémentine Arnold: Clémentine is a 19-year-old jazz vocalist and multi-instrumentalist specialising in Jazz Voice at the Royal Academy of Music where she gained a place with a scholarship in 2024. Originally from Surrey\, she is an award-winning musician\, having been named Trinity Music Academy’s Musician of the Year in 2023. \nClémentine began studying classical recital piano at the age of three\, but eventually found her strongest musical instinct was in singing at around age 13. She went on to explore classical music and musical theatre\, alongside developing as a pianist and composer. This broad musical background has strongly informed the authentic sound she has developed as a jazz musician today. \nClémentine’s passion for jazz developed during her time at The Purcell School for Young Musicians\, where she initially joined as a classical composer before re-auditioning for Jazz Voice (and second study jazz piano) after discovering the school’s jazz department. From here on\, Clémentine has performed at venues including PizzaExpress Live in Soho\, the Southbank Centre and BJazz\, as well as alongside established jazz musicians including Mark Nightingale and Alec Dankworth. She has also performed internationally as keyboard player and backing vocalist for rock icon Orianthi (known for playing with Michael Jackson) as well as being a guest twice on ’The Guilty Feminist’ live shows (at the Marlowe Theatre Canterbury and the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo). \nAlongside her studies\, Clémentine performs at  private events with a band whose repertoire spans jazz and popular music\, and regularly gigs at the Marian Anderson in Farringdon. She also produces her own occasional self-accompanied concert series\, An Evening with Clémentine\, at a local church which has attracted audiences across the Surrey community. \nClémentine’s voice has been described as mature\, sultry and possessing an “old soul” quality\, and she is equally at home with a swinging jazz standard or a melancholic ballad. Alongside performing\, Clémentine remains passionate about composition and songwriting. She is currently developing her own material\, with a particular interest in singer-songwriter music\, and hopes to record and perform her original music in London and beyond in the future.

DESCRIPTION:A long-established Trio of BJazz favourite swinging artists deliver popular bebop tunes and of ballads mixed with Matt’s own\, similar creations. \nMatt Wates\, sax: Described by the late John Dankworth as ‘an incredibly talented musician and composer’\, alto sax player Matt was born in London in 1964 and graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1988. He has appeared with Bucky Pizzarelli\, John Colianni\, Humphrey Lyttelton\, Georges Arvanitas\, Helen Shapiro\, Don Weller\, Bobby Wellins\, Dusko Goykovich\, Duncan Lamont\, Ian Shaw\, Norma Winstone and Peter King. He has recorded with Paz\, Roadside Picnic\, Itchy Fingers\, NYJO\, the Michael Garrick Big Band\, Sax Appeal and Jamie Cullum.Nigel Price\, guitar: Over a career spanning more than 25 years\, Nigel has become widely acknowledged as one of the hardest working musicians in the business\, and very popular at BJazz. Musically\, his blend of flowing bebop lines\, deep blues sensibility and his mastery of chording continue to delight audiences and fellow musicians alike. His career highlights include a support show for Gladys Knight at The Royal Albert Hall and an appearance on Van Morrison’s recent album Keep Me Singing. Citing early influences as Wes Montgomery\, Joe Pass\, John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra\, Nigel honed his craft by attending gigs and sitting in with the players of the time. He has played on more than 50 albums including 5 as a leader\, spent ten years with acid jazz outfit The Filthy Six\, was a member of James Taylor’s band for 3 years (with whom he recorded 5 albums) and performed with the legendary David Axelrod. He has also taught at The International Guitar Foundation at King’s Place\, London. He has worked tirelessly to organise his own tours (including a 56 date tour in late 2016) and has picked up a Parliamentary Jazz Award (Best Jazz Ensemble\, 2010)\, a nomination for a British Jazz Award (Best Guitarist\, 2014) and a British Jazz Award (Best Guitarist\, 2016) along the way.  \n​Alec Dankworth\, bass: Alec Dankworth is an award-winning jazz bassist and composer who\, in addition to leading several groups of his own\, has worked with an amazing list of artists including Van Morrison\, Stephanne Grappelli\, Abdullah Ibrahim\, and The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Award-nominated\, they deliver soulful\, swinging original and classic tunes. \nFive-Way Split is a jointly-led band formed in 2020 featuring some of the finest contemporary jazz musicians in the UK\, fronted by internationally renowned trumpet star Quentin Collins and Greek saxophone phenomenon Vasilis Xenopoulos. The rhythm section features the golden touch of pianist and composer Rob Barron\, virtuosic bassist Matyas Hofecker and dynamic drummer Matt Home. \nThe band’s vision is to carry on the lineage of groups like Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers as well as mirroring the New York contemporary- bop scene. From this inspiration\, the band presents a sound that respects the tradition of the hard-bop era whilst also bringing it up to date for today’s audience. With an extensive repertoire of carefully crafted and imaginative original compositions by each member along with hip\, swinging material by greats like Jimmy Heath\, Cedar Walton and Horace Silver\, Five-Way Split delivers a night of the best swinging and soulful music in town. \nThe band members have collectively have worked with the likes of Al Jarreau\, Kyle Eastwood\, Stacey Kent\, Gary Smulyan\, Harold Mabern and Barry Harris. They have played sold out shows at London’s Ronnie Scott’s & 606 Jazz Club\, Pizza Express Live\, as well as to appreciative full houses at jazz clubs up and down the country. \nTheir debut album “All The Way” contains mostly original compositions by the band as well as a couple of choice arrangements of classic jazz standards. Released in 2023 on Ubuntu Music\, by the late Martin Hummel\, the album featured in the top 20 Jazz Albums of 2023 in Jazzwise. Five-Way Split was also nominated in the best band category of the 2024 Parliamentary Jazz Awards. They will present a curated selection of songs from the Great American Songbook and beyond\, including well-known classics from musicals such as “My Fair Lady” and “Brigadoon\,” as well as hidden gems from their expansive body of work. \nSam Braysher\, “whose warm tone and consonant and inquisitive approach to harmony is attracting growing attention on the British jazz scene”\, (All About Jazz) is a London-based alto saxophonist. His three albums have received widespread critical acclaim. He takes a particular interest in interpreting lesser-played items from the American Songbook and jazz canon. \nAnnie Majin is a rising star vocalist and a skilled storyteller. Known for her charming stage presence and dynamic vocals\, Annie has gained attention on the London Jazz circuit\, as well as appearing in the UK premiere of Natasha\, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. DESCRIPTION:Rob Luft (g)\, Joe Wright (ts)\, Tom McCredie (b)\, Corrie Dick (d) \n“Instrumentalist of the Year” – UK Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2025\nRob Luft\, with previous success at BJazz\, is an award-winning jazz guitarist from London whose virtuosity has been compared to that of six-string legends John McLaughlin\, Al Di Meola & Paco De Lucia. The quartet will include Ellington\, Strayhorn and Thelonious Monk classics amongst Rob’s own originals. \nRob was the recipient of the 2016 Kenny Wheeler Prize from the Royal Academy of Music\, and he also received the 2nd Prize in the 2016 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition at Montreux Jazz Festival. His debut album\, “Riser”\, was released on Edition Records in 2017 to widespread acclaim from the European jazz media. John Fordham wrote in The Guardian that it’s a “very sophisticated debut\, but given Luft’s old-soul achievements since his early teens\, we should have heard it coming”. \nSubsequently\, on the back of the success of his first album\, Rob was nominated for a string of awards – Breakthrough Act in the 2018 Jazz FM Awards\, Instrumentalist of the Year in the 2020 Parliamentary Jazz Awards and Instrumentalist of the Year in the 2019 Jazz FM Awards. In May 2019\, Rob was selected as a BBC New Generation Jazz Artist. His eagerly-awaited second album\, “Life is the Dancer”\, was released in April 2020 on Edition Records to critical acclaim. Rob made his debut appearance on the legendary German jazz label ECM Records with the album “Lost Ships\, a collaborative effort with Swiss-Albanian singer Elina Duni\, and this was nominated in the ‘International Album of the Year’ category in the 2021 German Jazz Prize. \nConcert highlights for Rob include performances with artists including Django Bates\, The Cinematic Orchestra\, Arve Henriksen\, & Manu Katché. Rob is a regular member of a multitude of some of Britain’s finest modern jazz groups\, such as The John Surman Quartet\, Byron Wallen’s Four Corners & the Iain Ballamy Quintet.
